Easter Sunday saw 15 teams (60 players) take to the course for the very popular Marine Hotel sponsored Ambrose. Locals mixed with visitors from Townsville and Mareeba. There was a wealth of prizes to vie for, random draws of extra prizes, and a great raffle. The weather was marvellous and the course, thank you to staff and volunteers, in marvellous condition. Waiting at the end was a BBQ lunch prepared and cooked by Ken English and helpers Warren and Glenda Stahel.
Margaret Power and Tony McCoy from the Marine Hotel presented the prizes to the winners.
In first place ParTee of Fore (Wayne Sheahan, Tracey Cousemacker, Rowly and Vicki Mott).
Second place went to Hot Shots (John Christ, Shirley Walters, Celia Beale, Margaret Benson) from Townsville.
Third place went to DILLIGAF (Dave Lee, Sharon Cameron, Zack Hurcum and Renee Gray).
Fourth place Arlie’s Boys (Arlie Robinson, Kevin Brown, Brian Wishart and Geoff Reading).
The longest drive for men with a handicap 0-26 was Tony McCoy from the Marine Hotel who gave his prize to Keith Hoare who had a drive close to his!!
Long drive for men with a handicap 27 or over was Damian Reading.
The longest drive for ladies with a handicap 0-29 was Jackie Olditch.
Long drive for ladies with a handicap 30 and over was Nicola Hartigan.
There were prizes for teams that were Nearest the Pin or individuals who had great approach shots.
It is great to see juniors being encouraged to play golf, especially for a club with an ageing membership. It is great to see a very young Oscar Phelps leading his team. He received and encouragement award. We know he will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
